Wednesday Ratings: Katie Couric No Star in Primetime
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Lost, Ratings,
For some reason, CBS chose last night - an American Idol night - to test out a primetime edition of their evening news. Needless to say, the experiment bombed.
8pm
- American Idol (27 million, 10.1/25 in 18-49) picked up 1.1 million.
- Outside of repeats, the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric (6.5 million, 1.2/3) had the worst demos of the night.
- Knight Rider (6.1 million, 1.9/5) grew by 1.1 million.
- Lost* (1.7/4) refreshed 5.3 million.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine* (4.9 million, 1.1/3) fell by 2.4 million.
- Privileged* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) did 300,000 less than 13: Fear is Real.

Tuesday Ratings: Biggest Loser Grows Despite Idol
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Scrubs, Ratings,
I was always lead to believe that shows airing at the same time as Idol would suffer because of it. Apparently that isn’t the case with The Biggest Loser. Last night, the NBC show actually improved in the face of Simon Cowell.
8pm
- American Idol (25.2 million, 9.6/24 in 18-49) picked up 2.8 million in the post-inauguration week.
- NCIS (19 million, 3.9/10) was up 7.3 million over last week’s repeat.
- The Biggest Loser: Couples (11 million, 4.1/10) beefed up by 8%.
- Homeland Security USA (1.6/4) settled for 5.6 million.
- 90210* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) lost 1.3 million.

Wednesday Ratings: Idol Does Even Better
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Lost, Ratings,
Even though last night’s numbers for American Idol weren’t dramatically different than Tuesday’s, Day 2’s ratings were significant. It was the first time in five years Idol‘s second night did better than the first.
8pm
- American Idol (30.3 million, 11.8/30 in 18-49) grew 1% in the demo.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (7.2 million, 1.9/5) was off by a million; Gary Unmarried (7.1 million, 2.1/5) was down about 300,000.
- Knight Rider (5.3 million, 1.6/4) lost 400,000.
- A block of Lost* repeats (1.7/4) averaged 4.5 million.
- 13: Fear is Real (1.6 million, 0.6/2) gave up 800,000.

Tuesday Ratings: Good and Bad News for American Idol
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Scrubs, Ratings,
The addition of a 4th judge didn’t help American Idol‘s ratings last night. The series saw its lowest demo number for a premiere; it also had its smallest audience for an opener since 2004. But bad news is always relative. The show was still the hottest ticket so far this year. CBS’ programs, in the meantime, displayed remarkable strength despite increased competition.
8pm
- Approximately 30.1 million (11.7/28 in 18-49) saw American Idol‘s Phoenix auditions.
- NCIS (18.6 million, 3.7/9) only lost 500,000.
- The Biggest Loser: Couples (8.9 million, 3.3/8) gave up 2.9 million.
- Homeland Security USA (6 million, 1.8/5) let 1.8 million go.
- 90210 (2.2 million, 1.1/3) slid by 21%.

Tuesday Ratings: Biggest Loser Gains Viewers
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, House, Scrubs, Ratings,
Could this be the Oprah effect? Or was it simply a result of New Year’s Resolutions? Whatever the reason, NBC’s The Biggest Loser had a sizable debut. The show helped the Peacock network win in the demos while CBS’ normally strong Wednesday lineup had a victory with the viewers.
8pm
- NCIS (19.1 million, 3.7/10 in 18-49) had its second largest audience ever.
- The Biggest Loser (11.8 million, 4.5/11) had its biggest debut to date.
- The premiere of Homeland Security USA (2.3/6) attracted 7.8 million.
- House* (2.2/6) treated 5.6 million.
- 90210 (1.4/4) returned to 2.8 million.

2009 Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations (TV)
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, ABC, Cable, FOX, HBO, NBC, Showtime, TNT-HD, 24, Desperate Housewives, Entourage, House, The Office, News,
Even though SAG members are currently debating whether to strike, today’s award nominations gave them all a brief distraction. If the upcoming Oscars telecast doesn’t go on as planned, next month’s Screen Actors Guild Awards (scheduled for January 25th on TNT and TBS) could be the last time actors have a reason to celebrate.
Here are some of the noteworthy mentions from this year’s list of television nominees:
- 30 Rock, Boston Legal, The Closer, John Adams and Mad Men all scored three noms each.
- Dexter is up for its first win in the Outstanding Drama Series Ensemble category.
- Desperate Housewives - a nominee for Best Ensemble - received no individual honors.
- Debra Messing (The Starter Wife), Kevin Connolly (Entourage), January Jones (Mad Men), Anna Paquin (True Blood) and Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) all received Golden Globe nominations, but no SAG noms.

- True Blood is the only new series to receive any nods.
- Kiefer Sutherland and 24 received nominations for the show’s 2-hour special.

Tuesday Ratings: House, Repeats Top the Night
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, House, Ratings,
Thanks to a nice showing from House, FOX was able to nab the demos last night. Unfortunately, the network still couldn’t completely overpower a slate of repeats on CBS.
8pm
- NCIS* (14.1 million, 2.7/7 in 18-49) was Wednesday’s most-watched show.
- House (13.9 million, 5.6/15) had the evening’s best demo performance.
- The Biggest Loser: Families (9.2 million, 3.6/9) raised 500,000.
- A special America’s Funniest Home Videos (2.0/5) had 7.3 million laughing.
- 90210* (1.2 million, 0.6/1) did the same as last week.
